Frozen meats are nutrient-rich staples — yet rising grocery prices make them tough to afford on a tight budget. You can help.
On December 2, support The River Food Pantry’s Giving Tuesday campaign to ensure our Dane County neighbors have reliable access to frozen meats.
- $25 can provide 25 packs of sliced deli meat
- $75 can provide 51 1-pound packs of ground chicken
- $150 can provide 125 packs of sausage links
- $300 can provide 126 1-pound packs of ground beef
- $600 can provide 172 packs of chicken drumsticks
Thanks to a generous match, all Giving Tuesday donations will be DOUBLED up to $20,000!
Our clients tell us that high food costs are the biggest barrier to getting the nutrition their households need. Meat is a rich source of protein, which is especially important for growing children, teens, pregnant and breastfeeding people, and older adults—supporting healthy growth, energy, and overall well-being. Freezing these items helps to store them longer, reduce waste, and make healthy meals last throughout the week.
One parent shared what support from The River means to her family: “My kids never have to know what hungry feels like, and that is such a relief to a mom of four who grew up having to be hungry often. Not needing to have that burden is AMAZING.”
Each week, The River distributes a variety of frozen proteins to more than 3,500 people through curbside pickup, delivery, and online ordering. This includes a variety of non-meat proteins, such as tofu and plant-based meats, to meet different dietary needs and preferences. While some frozen proteins are donated or rescued, we must purchase the rest at a cost of several thousand dollars each week.
As food insecurity continues to rise in Dane County, your gift will ensure The River’s grocery programs can offer a consistent amount of frozen meats to our neighbors in need.
Give to The River’s Giving Tuesday campaign on December 2 and help nourish our community.
