The River is South Central Wisconsin’s busiest food pantry. Our services include free groceries for pick up or delivery, to-go meals, online grocery orders, mobile meals, and after-hours food lockers. We are looking for a dynamic, innovative fundraiser and leader to join our team. The Director of Development provides leadership, strategic direction, management and execution of all fundraising initiatives including individual, major gifts, corporate and foundation giving, planned giving and special events to support the mission, vision, and goals of The River. The full-time Director of Development reports to the Executive Director and collaborates with organizational leaders and team members, the Board of Directors, volunteers, and donors.
The Director of Development will have the following primary responsibilities:
- Steward a multi-channel approach to individual, institutional (foundations and corporations), and major donor giving.
- Identify, cultivate, and maintain relationships with donors and prospective donors, both individual and corporate.
- Serve as The River’s ambassador at public events through engaging presentations with businesses, service groups, faith communities and community organizations.
- Assist with leading fundraising events for The River to increase new donors, engage with current donors and provide an additional revenue source to The River.
- Monitor, analyze and report on fundraising data to evaluate performance and adjust strategies as needed. Oversee the donor database, record donor contacts and updates, and ensure timely donor acknowledgement.
- Oversee funding opportunities from a grant perspective as it relates to foundations and government sources.
- Establish, manage, and adhere to effective fund development program policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with the Communications Team to effectively promote the organization to donors, volunteers, and external partners, and stakeholders.
- Leading and managing team members including coaching and managing performance.
The ideal Director of Development will have the following qualifications and skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, marketing/sales, communications, public relations, or experience in non-profit management or fundraising is required.
- 3+years’ experience in fundraising and development leadership, including strategic planning, relationship building, annual giving, and major gifts, preferably with organizations involved in substantial growth is required.
- Experience in identifying and engaging major donors and building productive, positive donor relationships is required.
- Experience leading others, providing feedback, and managing performance is required.
- Multilingual is preferred.
- Commitment and passion for The River’s mission, vision, and goals.
- Demonstrated knowledge in all areas of development including annual, major, planned gifts, donor relations, development services, and communications.
- Experience with CRM’s and analyzing and interpreting data to make informed decisions.
- Ability to communicate in a persuasive oral and written manner.
- Ability to listen to others with intent to seek understanding and build relationships.
- Ability to work with a broad group of people.

- Background and DMV check are required.
