Position purpose
Many households face various barriers when trying to access nutritious food, including health concerns, food deserts, lack of transportation, and lack of childcare. To help increase access to groceries, The River Food Pantry has established a delivery program, River Delivers, to meet the community’s needs. This staff member will coordinate and prepare these deliveries. Administrative duties are also included in the job responsibilities. To be successful in this position an individual must be able to interact with others in a warm, friendly, and professional manner, enjoy both collaborative and independent work, be organized, and have good communication skills.
Compensation
Starting wage is $17 per hour. The River also offers group insurance plans, paid holidays, paid time off, and a retirement plan.
Hours
40 hours weekly, regularly Monday–Friday between the hours of 7:00 am–5:00 pm. Occasional weekends with advance notice.
Delivery duties and responsibilities (90%)
- Collect all necessary information from volunteers and ensure all on-boarding aspects of volunteers is completed.
- Complete incoming requests and coordinate deliveries, with direct communication with client households.
- Maintain relationships with community partners.
- Make process adaptations as needed.
- Focus on ongoing volunteer recruitment and retention, in collaboration with the Volunteer Coordinator.
- Lead volunteers in preparing groceries and picking up deliveries.
- Collect regular feedback on the process, and address issues as they arise.
- Complete household deliveries as needed throughout Dane County.
Administrative duties and responsibilities (10%)
- Perform general clerical duties including, but not limited to, data entry and maintaining electronic and hard-copy filing systems.
- Perform receptionist duties such as answering, screening and transferring inbound phone calls in a professional manner, and direct visitors, volunteers and clients as needed.
- Other miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Relevant work experience.
- Experience with process management and data-informed projects a plus.
- Knowledge in building processes, analyzing and collecting data, and a systems-thinker.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

Physical demands
- The position will be seated or standing at a computer at times, as well as walking and lifting during pantry sessions as needed.
- Ability to lift up to 60 lbs.
- Able to work in adverse weather conditions, including rain, snow, cold weather, and heat.
