The River Food Pantry is thrilled to share that it has been voted both Best Charitable Organization and Best Chef (Kitchen Team) in the Madison.com 2026 People’s Choice Awards.

“We are honored to be recognized for the sixth year in a row as Best Charitable Organization among thousands of nonprofit organizations in the Madison area. And, I am so pleased that our talented kitchen team has earned this recognition for the third time,” said Rhonda Adams, Executive Director of The River. “These awards also honor our dedicated volunteers, generous donors, and supporters who make what we do possible.”

The Best Chef award recognizes The River’s kitchen staff, who work alongside volunteers each week to prepare nutritious, delicious meals for our Dane County neighbors in need. From to-go meals and Munch mobile meals to River Café Community Meals and monthly meals for veterans through Vets Connect, these meals help ensure everyone in our community has access to healthy, good-tasting food—all free of charge.

Beyond meals, The River provides a variety of free services to help our neighbors experiencing food insecurity access the food and resources they need, including drive-thru groceries, home delivery, online grocery orders, after-hours food lockers, and clothing.

These awards are a reflection of the entire River community—from the neighbors who rely on The River for food and support to the volunteers, donors, partners, and staff who make this work possible.
