Vets Connect

Vets Connect

Vets Connect is a relaxed monthly gathering that builds connections and fellowship between Dane County veterans, their families, and the community. Prior to covid, Pastor Gerry of St. Paul Lutheran Church hosted Vets Connect as a part of the Bread of Life Food Pantry. After a three year break and the retirement of Pastor Gerry, The River Food Pantry’s Executive Director Rhonda Adams (a U.S. Army veteran) restored the program.

Gatherings are held on the final Tuesday of each month, starting with a shared meal at 5pm at The River Food Pantry (3301 Packers Ave, Madison). Vets Connect seeks to foster a healthy community by hosting nutritious meals in an alcohol- and substance-free environment. Meals are typically followed by a guest speaker presenting on a varied and interesting topic. Following the evening’s presentation, attendees are welcome to stay for activities, games, cards or conversation.

Veteran status, or being an invited guest of a veteran, is the only qualification for participation. Participants are encouraged to share needs or interests that may be addressed by the program through future presenters or activities.

In line with The River’s mission of reducing food insecurity, attendees are encouraged to take food home with them for future meals.
