This summer, a long-time volunteer and supporter brought her grandchildren in for a tour of The River. The children learned about food insecurity in our community and how organizations like The River can help. They were also inspired to get involved themselves.
Over the 4th of July weekend, they made lemonade and cookies to sell in a stand in the Cherokee Park neighborhood in Madison. Their homemade stand and signs truly captured the spirit of generosity and giving back.

While most volunteer roles at The River require the volunteer to be 16 or older, it’s still possible to get your kids involved. Encourage the young people in your life to help by raising money or holding a food drive. Check out our food drive kit for resources and ideas on how to get started.
