The River Food Pantry is excited to announce it has received the Gold Award for Best Volunteer Opportunity through Madison Magazine’s Best of Madison Awards!

“We are so grateful to receive this recognition from Madison Magazine!” said Rhonda Adams, Executive Director of The River. “This award is a reflection of the dedication and hard work of our volunteers.”

The River needs the help of thousands of volunteers each year to fulfill its mission of nourishing Dane County households experiencing food insecurity. In 2025 alone, 2,889 volunteers served 38,936 volunteer hours.

Volunteers at The River make it possible to serve more than 4,000 people each week by helping to prepare to-go meals, serve community meals, wash dishes, sort donations, prepare drive-thru grocery orders, register clients, distribute mobile meals, and more!
