Grants Manager | The River Food Pantry

Position purpose
This position is responsible for managing The River Food Pantry’s grant proposal process from start to finish, as well as assisting with aspects of development, communications, and community relations activities.

Compensation
Compensation range based on skills and experience, $48,000–$52,000. The River also offers full-time employees group insurance plans, paid holidays, paid time off, wellness days, and a retirement plan.

Hours
This is a full-time salaried position Monday through Friday, and occasional weekend and evening hours. There is a possibility to work remotely 1–2 days per week.

Duties and responsibilities

Grants (90%)

  • Research and identify grant funding opportunities that match the objectives of the organization.
  • Prepare full grant proposals by determining concept, gathering information, stories, and data, writing drafts, and obtaining approvals.
  • Maintain accurate record of past and present grant opportunities, deadlines, and proposals.
  • Track progress and provide appropriate reports and updates to funders and staff.
  • Maintain proficient knowledge of the organization’s history and programs.
  • Facilitate regular grant meetings with appropriate staff.

Communications (5%)

  • Assist with researching, providing content, writing, proofing, and sending development materials.
  • Assist in analyzing and reporting impact of development communications.

Community relations and events (5%)

  • Assist with the coordination, promotion and facilitation of special events, meetings, and activities to ensure they are well planned and operate smoothly.
  • Represent The River at events focused on community development and fundraising.
  • Utilize opportunities, such as pantry sessions, to learn clients’ stories to communicate The River’s impact in a compelling way.
  • Other duties as assigned, including support of Communications Manager, Director of Development and Executive Director.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 1-year successful experience in grant writing, prospect research, general fundraising or a minimum of 2 years comparable skills acquired in a professional setting that includes writing and storytelling.
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office 365, especially Outlook and Excel.

Skills, knowledge, and experience

  • Commitment to The River’s mission to fight hunger in our community.
  • Strong writing skills with strength in technical and/or persuasive writing.
  • Thorough knowledge of standard English grammar, spelling and punctuation and ability to assimilate information from various sources and prepare clear communication for oral and written presentation.
  • Strong interpersonal skills in a team setting and on an individual basis.
  • Demonstrated success in writing strategic communications pieces.
  • Exceptional organization, attention to detail, and adherence to deadlines.
  • Thorough knowledge of and ability to make practical application of word processing and desktop-publishing software.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work under pressure, use independent judgment and produce a quality result, sometimes within tight time constraints.
  • Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and priorities.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The position requires considerable concentration. It is subject to stress caused by a changing environment, tight deadlines and workload. There are extended periods of sitting at a workstation or desk and required manual dexterity to work efficiently on computer keyboard for data entry and composing of documents.
